A contingent of Australian Taekwondo athletes will travel to Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, for the 2023 World Combat Games.
To be contested from October 20-30, four athletes will make their way to Western Asia to compete.
Flying the flag for Australia will be John Yoo (TKD World, NSW), Luke McMahon (Hartmann Taekwondo, QLD), Rose Abela (Notorious Martial Arts, VIC) and Grace Kiefer (Global Martial Arts, NSW). While Jerry Moraitis from Hall's Taekwondo in Victoria will lead the team as coach.
The World Combat Games is an international multi-sport festival bringing together ancient traditions, competitions and sport demonstrations.
The event will feature 16 combat sports and martial arts competitions, sports demonstrations and educational conferences hosted by leading martial arts experts.
The first World Martial Arts Gala, honouring the legends of martial arts and combat sports, will also be held.
The last World Combat Games were held in Saint Petersburg, Russia, in 2013.
The 2023 games include Paris 2024 Olympic sports judo, taekwondo, wrestling, fencing, and boxing, with 1700 athletes from over 80 countries participating.
The complete list of World Combat Games sports include, Aikido, Armwrestling, Boxing, Fencing, Judo, Ju-jitsu, Karate, Kendo, Kickboxing, Muaythai, Sambo, Savate, Sumo, Taekwondo, Wrestling and
Wushu.
Taekwondo will run on day 9, 10 and 11, October 28-30.
