Creating opportunities for athletes of all abilities to train, compete and thrive — underpinned by fair, ethical classification.
Paralympics Australia is responsible for implementing the International Paralympic Committee's Athlete Classification Code, which details the relevant policies and procedures common across Paralympic sports. Paralympics Australia works with Australian Taekwondo to create opportunities for athletes to access accurate and quality classification at the relevant point in their sporting pathway.
Australian Taekwondo actively promotes ethical classification practice, ensuring that our athletes are protected and Para-sport integrity is upheld. If you're new to Para-Taekwondo or interested in getting involved, find out more here.

The classification of athletes is essential for maintaining the integrity and fairness of Para-sport competitions. It establishes the eligibility of athletes and the framework for organising them into appropriate event categories based on their impairments. The primary objective is to group together athletes with similar impairments — much like grouping by age, gender or weight.
To compete in Para-Taekwondo, you must undergo a classification assessment and hold a sport class for Para-Taekwondo. Classification is not required for recreational or social involvement. To learn more about eligibility, who to contact, or how to become classified, see the resources below.
