The Solomon Islands are gearing up to host the Pacific Games from 19 November to 2 December 2023, which will see 5,000 athletes and officials come together to compete across 24 sports.
Australia will send a record 72 athletes, which includes a team of eight Taekwondo athletes who qualified for a place at the Australian Taekwondo National Championships in Perth last month via result-based selections.
Benjamin Camua (58kg), Matthew Summerfield (68kg), Liam Sweeney (80kg), Tyrone Staben (+80kg), Juliet Lahood (49kg), Stacey Hymer (57kg), Rebecca Murray (67kg) and Reba Stewart (+67kg) will all make the trip to the Solomon Islands.
Supporting the group will be a coaching team led by National Coach Seokhun Lee, with Ryan Carnelli and Safwan Khalil also part of the coaching group.
The Opening Ceremony will take place on November 19, with Taekwondo scheduled for November 28–29. The Pacific Games will be broadcast in Australia on SBS. SBS VICELAND and SBS On Demand will deliver 10 hours of live sport each day, while SBS and VICELAND will also air 60-minute highlight shows that can be viewed any time via On Demand.
