Australian Taekwondo, in collaboration with CombatAUS, is pleased to announce its Athlete Categorisation for 2024.
In line with the Athlete Categorisation Criteria, the sport-industry-wide National Athlete Categorisation Framework (NACF) consists of five levels across the Podium Pathway: Podium, Podium Ready, Podium Potential, Developing and Emerging.
The Athlete Categorisation Criteria for Taekwondo aligns, as is required, with these five Podium Pathway categories. The Associate category is a sport-specific category beyond the NACF that recognises athletes who haven't yet met the performance profile of the Podium Pathway categories but qualified for Benchmark Event senior teams in 2023.
As required under the NACF, Athlete Categorisation is conducted annually in the final quarter of each calendar year, to take effect from January the following year. A mid-year categorisation consideration may occur for specific athletes by exception in 2024, but we will not be conducting a full mid-year review.
Podium Pathway categorised athletes will receive a level of investment to support targeted camps and competitions in 2024.
We would like to acknowledge the investment and support that CombatAUS and Australian Taekwondo receives from the AIS and State Institute of Sport partners.
Any appeals will be conducted pursuant to clause 8 of the Athlete Categorisation Guidelines - Taekwondo.
