President's Cup G2 & Australian Open G2 confirmed for September

4 March 2024

International Taekwondo events are set to return to Brisbane in 2024, with the World Taekwondo President's Cup (Oceania) and the Australian Open confirmed for September 18-22 at Nissan Arena.

Open to the world's top black belts, athletes from World Taekwondo's 212 Member National Associations are invited to attend.

Each event carries G2 world ranking points, with disciplines to include Kyorugi (Sparring), Para-Kyorugi, Poomsae (Patterns) and Para-Poomsae.

The president of the Oceania Taekwondo Union (OTU), John Kotsifas, is pleased to see the G2 events return to Australia and the demand remaining strong.

"We are pleased to see Australia's continued enthusiasm to host these events and their popularity with Member National Associations. Both events are popular on the international calendar, and OTU looks forward to our continued collaboration with Australian Taekwondo to support their growth and development into the future."

"While these events will bring some of the world's best Taekwondo athletes to Australia, they also serve as meaningful development opportunities for athletes in the Oceania region to access elite international competitions and ranking points."

Australian Taekwondo's Acting Chief Executive Officer, Ben Exton, is delighted to bring international Taekwondo events to Brisbane, a location popular with the international taekwondo community.

"Australia has a long and successful history of hosting these events, and Queensland has always been a popular destination amongst Member National Associations. We can't wait to deliver another professional international tournament at Nissan Arena."

In 2023, 45 countries participated, with several athletes ranked in the world top-10 of their respective weight divisions competing.

In conjunction with the international competitions, a National Team will be selected on September 19 for the 2024 World Taekwondo Poomsae Championships in Hong Kong in November.

The World Taekwondo President's Cup (Oceania) will run September 19-20, followed by the Australian Open on September 21-22. Both events will be held at Nissan Arena in Nathan, 12 kilometers from Brisbane's CBD, and carry G2 world ranking points.

The series of events is supported by World Taekwondo, the Oceania Taekwondo Union, and Fight HQ.

World Taekwondo is the International Federation governing the sport of Taekwondo and is a member of the Association of Summer Olympic International Federations and the International Paralympic Committee. The World Taekwondo headquarters are located in Seoul, South Korea.
