Australian Taekwondo is thrilled to announce the return of two major international Taekwondo events to Australia: the 2025 World Taekwondo President’s Cup (Oceania) and the Australian Open. These prestigious competitions will take place from August 14-17, 2025, at the world-class Gold Coast Sports and Leisure Centre, attracting elite black belt athletes from around the globe.

The 2025 President’s Cup will be a G3 event, offering increased world ranking points, while the Australian Open will hold its status as a G2 event. Both competitions will feature Kyorugi (Sparring), Para-Kyorugi, Poomsae (Patterns), and Para-Poomsae, delivering an inclusive and thrilling experience across multiple disciplines.

Gold Coast Mayor Tom Tate welcomed the events, underscoring the opportunity to showcase the city and its premier sporting facilities to a global audience.

“Prepare to see the world’s top black belt athletes in action right here on the Gold Coast in August 2025,” Mayor Tate said.

“Our world-class Gold Coast Sports and Leisure Centre will host competitors from more than 40 countries, plus officials and their supporters, shining a national and global spotlight on our incredible facilities and city.”

Experience Gold Coast CEO John Warn expressed pride in supporting these events, highlighting the city's commitment to hosting top-tier competitions.

“We are proud to support the 2025 Australian Open and World Taekwondo Presidents Cup and welcome athletes from across the globe to our city,” Warn said.

“Our city’s event calendar continues to offer more reasons to visit the Gold Coast, and hosting key international and national Taekwondo tournaments builds on our reputation as a destination to hold, compete in, and watch elite sporting events.”

Australian Taekwondo is excited to continue the momentum of international events and build upon the success achieved over the past two years. We look forward to collaborating with the Oceania Taekwondo Union to deliver these high-calibre competitions, reinforcing our commitment to evolving and professionalising our events for both national and international members.

As part of this commitment, we are pleased to partner with Martial Events as the official OVR provider. Known as the industry leader for G-ranked events, Martial Events has set a high standard in event delivery, and we are excited to work with them once again to ensure an exceptional experience for athletes and officials.

Josh O’Brien, CEO of Australian Taekwondo, shared his enthusiasm for the organisation’s ongoing collaboration with the Gold Coast Council and Martial Events, reinforcing the vision to deliver world-class events for the national and international Taekwondo community.

"The Gold Coast is the perfect setting for these prestigious tournaments, and we are honoured to bring the World Taekwondo President’s Cup and Australian Open to such a dynamic city," O’Brien said.

"Our partnership with Martial Events as our OVR provider ensures we can deliver the highest standards of professionalism in competition. We are proud to collaborate with the Gold Coast Council and Martial Events to create an unforgettable experience for athletes, officials, and fans alike.”

The 2024 events saw participation from 45 countries, including several athletes ranked in the top 10 globally. Building on this momentum, the 2025 Australian Open and President’s Cup will provide Oceania athletes with invaluable opportunities to compete internationally and earn higher-ranking points.

Both events are supported by World Taekwondo, the Oceania Taekwondo Union, and Fight HQ. World Taekwondo, headquartered in Seoul, South Korea, governs the sport worldwide.
