Day 2 and 3 of the World Poomsae Championships: A Showcase of Talent and Determination

The second and third days of the World Poomsae Championships brought a mix of emotions for Team Australia. While Day 2 delivered some promising performances, Day 3 brought a wave of medal success and inspiring displays of skill.

Day 3 Highlights: Silver Success for Bronwyn Butterworth

Bronwyn Butterworth, representing MTC Victoria, once again demonstrated her exceptional prowess on the global stage. Adding to her impressive record from previous World Championships, Bronwyn secured two silver medals on Day 3. Competing in the Female Over 65 Individual category, she showcased her mastery and advanced to the finals after several strong performances, narrowly missing out on gold in a closely contested match.

In the Over 60 Pairs Division Bronwyn partnered with David Atkinson from Bendigo Taekwondo Victoria where the Duo won the silver medal against strong opposition, only falling short of the Gold narrowly to a strong pair from Germany.

These performances exemplify the strength and dedication of Australia’s senior athletes, who continue to inspire with their resilience and skill.


Day 3 Results

  • Female Cadet Team: Sara Wong, Tiffany Zhang (MTF Victoria), and Adeline Chan (K Martial Arts Victoria) lost in the quarterfinals.
  • Gunwoo Woo (King Tiger Male) Under 50: Reached the Round of 16.
  • Joshua Kim (Kang’s Taekwondo NSW) Male Cadet: Lost in the Round of 32 to the eventual champions from Korea.
  • Andrew Tan (Kang’s Taekwondo NSW) Male Junior: Advanced to the Round of 16.
  • Female Junior Team: Bridgette Dang (Infinite Martial Arts NSW), Michelle Kim, and Vanessa Lam (Kang’s Taekwondo NSW) lost in the Round of 32.
  • Freestyle Male Over 17: Johnathan Sun (Oh Do Kwan) was eliminated in the preliminaries.
  • U50 Female Team: Valerie Kwok, Christina Lowry, and Michelle De Bella (Lane Cove TKD NSW) were knocked out in the Round of 16.

Day 2 Results

  • Jiheon Ahn (MTF Taekwondo Victoria) Male Under 40: Narrowly lost in the Round of 16 to the gold medalist from China in a highly competitive match.
  • Dennis Park (Defence Force Taekwondo ACT) Male Under 60: Advanced to the Round of 16.
  • U30 Female Team (Oh Do Kwan WA): Shahida Hill, Andrette Chua, and Fei Chew exited in the Round of 32.
  • Griffin Reytomas (MTC Victoria) Male Under 30: Lost in the Round of 64.
  • Sarah Upton (Global Taekwondo Victoria) Female Under 40: Reached the Round of 16.
  • Becky Azzoppardi (Flinn Taekwondo QLD) Female Under 50: Knocked out in the Round of 32.
  • Genevieve Chia (Schembris Taekwondo Victoria) Freestyle Female Under 17: Eliminated in the preliminaries.
