As part of the Australian UniRoos squad, five Taekwondo athletes from Australia are set to journey to Chengdu, China, to participate in the rescheduled 2021 FISU Summer World University Games from 28 July to 8 August 2023.
Syed Ibadullah Aya (Whiteway's Taekwondo, SA), Grace Kiefer, Musa Taekwondo (NSW), Ambrosia Landsberg (Edge Taekwondo, QLD), Ryan Lee (King Tiger, NSW) and Elena Zhao (King Tiger, NSW) will all fly the flag for Australia in Chengdu. The group will be supported by coach Zhixiang Chen from Hero City Taekwondo in Queensland.
The UniRoos squad comprises a total of 98 student-athletes and is backed by 20 coaches and officials, all competing in 11 different sports throughout the 12-day event. They will be going up against student-athletes from more than 50 countries across the globe.
Australia will also be well-represented by Poomsae and Kyorugi referees, including Linda Pace (White Studio Taekwondo, VIC) Muhktar Kadiri (Palace Martial Arts, VIC) representing Ghana, Diego Chiriff (Hanmu, VIC) representing Uruguay, and Nikky White (VIC).
The Australian UniRoos is the collective identity for all UniSport high-performance teams that proudly represent Australia on the international stage, whether it be at a World University Championship, Summer, or Winter University Games.
