Australian Taekwondo has achieved significant international recognition, securing first place in the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion and Community category at the 2025 World Taekwondo Sustainability Awards. This honour reflects a deep organisational commitment to meaningful social impact and leadership within the global Taekwondo community.
This achievement reflects progress against the strategic vision set by World Taekwondo in 2022, which introduced a global Sustainability Strategy centred around three key areas: Diversity, Equity and Inclusion and Community, Environmental Sustainability, and Health and Well being. The Sustainability Awards recognise Member National Associations that contribute to these objectives and drive positive change through sport.
The award acknowledges initiatives that strengthen inclusion, expand access, and deliver strong community engagement outcomes through sport. Australian Taekwondo’s submission highlighted a range of programs designed to increase participation opportunities across diverse groups, including regional and remote participants, culturally diverse communities, people with disability, and athletes seeking pathways for growth and development. These initiatives were created in response to demonstrated need, with clear objectives and measurable outcomes guiding their implementation.
Australian Taekwondo has now received first place twice within the Sustainability Awards framework, reinforcing its role as a leader in inclusive sport development and community engagement. The success is a testament to the dedication of the organisation’s volunteers, instructors, coaches, athletes, students, staff, board and partners who continue to champion participation for all.
Australian Taekwondo remains committed to building a welcoming and supportive community environment, ensuring that Taekwondo stands as a sport accessible to every individual regardless of background, ability or circumstance. This accomplishment marks an important milestone and motivates continued effort to grow and strengthen inclusive pathways throughout Australia.
