The Board comprises one appointed director and seven elected directors, one of whom is the Chair. The Board is responsible for the overall governance and strategic direction of the organisation on behalf of its members, providing overall superintendence of the company, overseeing performance and compliance. Hugh Eagling

Hugh is the Grand Master Instructor of one of Australia's oldest Martial Arts Clubs, established in 1973. Hugh has an extensive corporate background in the Maritime Security, Safety and Risk management sector, and owns and operates a successful motor vehicle restoration company. Hugh has practiced Taekwondo for over 50 years and has experienced it as an Instructor, student, athlete, coach and referee. Taekwondo remains one of the most passionate aspects of his life, and he has dedicated much of his adult life to its development and progression in Australia.
Deanna Kyriazopoulos
Deputy Chair & Elected Director
Appointed December 2, 2022. Deanna was an Australian Taekwondo athlete who competed in World Championships and Grand Prix events. She was a gold medallist in the Oceania Championships and has won other international medals. Deanna comes to Australian Taekwondo with a recruitment and search background in the corporate sector and coaches Taekwondo within her local community.
Jean Kfoury OAM
President & Elected Director
Jean Kfoury is a Taekwondo Grandmaster with extensive experience in both Taekwondo and professional services, dedicated to transforming the organisation into a global leader. Renowned for his integrity and commitment, he has always embraced Australian Taekwondo as "our Taekwondo," recognising the collective strength of its community.
His engagement with Australian Taekwondo has consistently been characterised by a dedication to serving its members, with a continual focus on prioritising both the members and the advancement of the sport. With global experience in Taekwondo, he is highly respected on the international stage, possessing an impressive global network and demonstrating significant influence across various regions. In his role he proudly represents Australian Taekwondo, as well as Kukkiwon and World Taekwondo, further strengthening the organisation's global presence.
Achievement: Jean received the Medal of the Order of Australia insignia on the 11th of May 2026, recognising his exceprional service and development of taekwondo. He has received multiple citations and awards for outstanding contributions, and was officially inducted into the Taekwondo Hall of Fame in Las Vegas in the category of Outstanding Taekwondo Player.
Adrian Hitch

Adrian holds a Ph.D., Dip.T., Grad. Dip. in Curriculum Design, Grad. Dip. Educ. Admin., Dip. F.L. Journ., Dip. T.E.F.L., and a Grad. Cert. in Studies of Asia.
Harry joins the Board with 22 years of experience in Taekwondo as an instructor and coach, and served on the Board of ATV before his election onto the AT Board. Harry is passionate about the traditional and modern aspects of Taekwondo and is dedicated to its growth as a national sport. Harry holds AUS Sport Director Education, a Masters of Teaching (Primary) and a Bachelor of Arts in International Politics.
Melhim Badreddine
Elected Director
Melhim's career spans over 20 years in the transport industry in roles across customer service, training and development, integration, commissioning, and health and safety. Melhim has been involved in Taekwondo for 37 years as a competitor, coach and instructor, and holds a Diploma in Management and Leadership.
Judith MacGowan
Appointed Director
Judith brings a wealth of business expertise, with an international career steeped in finance, strategy and governance. Having held numerous executive roles reporting to boards, Judith currently serves as the Regional CFO, Asia Pacific at Enovis and is a graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors (AICD). Her personal connection to Taekwondo is also notable, as she is the parent of three aspiring Taekwondo athletes, providing her with unique insights into the sport.
Julie Harris

Julie brings more than 20 years of experience in business management across a range of roles, with the ability to contribute significantly to strategic planning, project management, people management, financial budgeting and management, stakeholder engagement, contracts, marketing and public relations and public speaking. Her career has spanned roles in large corporations, federal government, and research consultancies. With formal tertiary qualifications in Psychology and a Master of Business Administration, Julie is also a passionate Taekwondo participant herself, being a 5th Dan as well as a 1st Class referee.
Amanda Chu

The Australian Taekwondo Staff have the day-to-day responsibilities for managing the company. The team works collaboratively across both high performance and community departments to deliver taekwondo across Australia.
Josh comes to Australian Taekwondo from Basketball ACT, where he held the position of Chief Operating Officer. With a background in sports management and an MBA, Josh's experience spans roles at Boxing Australia, Rowing ACT and Cricket ACT. Internationally, he aided the Saudi Arabia Boxing Federation. Josh aims to enhance Taekwondo's services and community connections.
Ben oversees national programs for High Performance and Pathways. He collaborates with CombatAUS to ensure a sustainable flow of athletes and coaches, as well as leading Para-Taekwondo's growth and development in the country.

Ali Khalil is Australian Taekwondo’s Performance Pathway Lead, overseeing the planning and delivery of programs that identify, develop and support emerging athletes and coaches across Australia.
A highly experienced performance coach, Ali has represented Australia as a coach across three Olympic Games and seven World Championships. He has coached several leading Australian athletes, including Olympians Safwan Khalil, Hayder Shkara and Carmen Marton. Through his role, Ali is committed to building clear development pathways and preparing Australia’s next generation of athletes for international success. .
Aidan joins Australian Taekwondo as the National Engagement Officer, supporting the organisation’s membership, community engagement, communication, media and event delivery. In this role he provides administrative support for clubs and assists members navigate the national systems and programs.
Before joining Australian Taekwondo, Aidan worked in competitions and event delivery at Cricket ACT as well as Manager of Kaleen Indoor Sports Centre. He also holds a Bachelor of Human Movement, majoring in Sports Management.

Maddy has been involved in Taekwondo for over 20 years as an athlete, coach, referee and administrator, with experience across grassroots participation, high-performance pathways and club management.
Maddy is a WT International Poomsae Referee, and has represented Australia as an athlete at the FISU Universiade, World Taekwondo Poomsae Championships and Commonwealth Taekwondo Championships, winning a Commonwealth bronze medal. She was a member of the Australian coaching team for the 2022 World Taekwondo Poomsae Championships and was selected to again represent Australia as an athlete at the 2026 World Taekwondo Poomsae Championships.
Maddy holds a Bachelor of Exercise and Sports Science, a Graduate Certificate in High Performance Sport, and a Master of High Performance Sport.
Jerry Moraitis is Australian Taekwondo’s Para Technical Lead, overseeing the development of athlete pathways, coaching capability and high-performance opportunities for para-athletes across Australia.
With more than 40 years of martial arts experience, Jerry has held leadership roles at major international events, including serving as Head Coach of the Saudi Arabian Para Taekwondo Team at the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games. Jerry holds a Diploma in Sport (Coaching) Martial Arts) and is committed to growing participation and supporting Australian para-athletes to succeed on the world stage. .
