Australian Taekwondo welcomes new Chief Executive Officer

30 April 2024

Australian Taekwondo is pleased to welcome Josh O'Brien to the role of Chief Executive Officer.

Josh comes to Australian Taekwondo from Basketball ACT where he held the position of Chief Operating Officer.

'I'm grateful and excited for the opportunity to join Australian Taekwondo. Many great things are happening across the Taekwondo ecosystem, and I'm eager to learn from the community and contribute to more success.'

'I'm looking forward to further developing Australian Taekwondo's services to its membership and working closely with the Executive Team, Board, Member States and partners to connect more people to the sport and martial art.'

Hailing from Yass, New South Wales, Josh pursued his passion for sport by earning a degree in Sport Management from the University of Canberra, followed by a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from the University of Newcastle.

His career journey in the sports industry began as an Operations Manager at Boxing Australia, where he dedicated three and a half years honing his skills and knowledge before moving to Rowing ACT as an Executive Officer, which provided him with invaluable experience in leadership and organisational management.

An exciting opportunity arose to return to Boxing Australia as Chief Executive Officer, spearheading initiatives to enhance the organisation's performance and impact.

Further, Josh has served as the General Manager of High Performance at Cricket ACT, contributing to the region's growth and development of elite cricket. He also gained international experience working with the Saudi Arabia Boxing Federation in 2022, where he played a pivotal role in establishing their national federation, workforce development, strategic planning, and successfully executing their inaugural national championships.

Contact details for Josh are provided on the contact us page of the Australian Taekwondo website.
