How the Olympics & Paralympics Can Benefit Your Club

25 June 2024

Taekwondo will be in the spotlight at the Paris Olympic and Paralympic Games in August, and thanks to television broadcasts, news outlets, radio stations, and digital media, interest in our sport and martial art is likely to increase.

The Paris Olympic and Paralympic Games provide clubs with a great opportunity to capitalise on this increased interest, connect with new participants, and promote Taekwondo generally. The Australian Olympic Committee will be running promotional campaigns around the 2024 Paris Olympic Games, including Have a Go Olympic Challenge. Please look out for this initiative and how your club can support and participate.

To get ready, we're urging clubs to start organising now to take full advantage of the Games and the chance to boost participation and grow your membership base.

Update your digital & communication channels.

In our digital age, people seek information online due to time and convenience. Take some time to review and update your website, social media, and other communication channels. Ensure that your club's contact details, general information, and instructions on participating or becoming a member are current and easily accessible. We encourage you to check Club Finder to ensure your club contact details are correct.

Club benefit: RevolutioniseSPORT gives member clubs access to a range of digital and administration tools, including online member registration and website template.

Service enquiries, quickly

If you have a general email, phone number, or even social media, arrange for someone to respond promptly to any enquiries during the Olympic Games. This is so new member leads that are generated from the Games are not lost.

Run a Try Taekwondo activation

Promote this early and urge your members to share it. Imagine the impact if every current member recruited just one new participant. Share your event with community radio, newspapers, MPs, and councillors who have strong community ties and often attend to enhance their visibility.

Club benefit: Member clubs can access revolutioniseSPORT's event management service, which allows clubs to conveniently create an event, register participants online, and take payments instantly.

New starter or member offers

The Olympic Games period is a great time to consider promoting new member offers or discounts. This can be for memberships, social events, or kids' activities. Use email, text, social media and word of mouth to get the word out.

Club benefit: Clubs can set up discount codes in revolutioniseSPORT for online member registrations that a new member can apply when joining.

Host a Taekwondo watch party to support the Australian Team

The Australian Olympic Committee, Paralympics Australia and Nine have launched Olympics and Paralympics LIVE, a joint offering set to ignite the Olympic spirit and encourage Australians to come together and support the Australia Olympic and Paralympics Teams competing at Paris 2024.

Invite members, guests, friends, families, and the local community. Combine it with a club information night to explain how to get involved in Taekwondo. You could also turn it into a fundraiser with a raffle, BBQ, and sparring demonstrations! If you're a club with former Olympians, ask them to attend and support the event.

Club benefit: Tag Australian Taekwondo in your Olympic event content so we can share what all our clubs and members are up to during the Games on our digital channels.

These are just a few suggestions to help your club capitalise on the 2024 Olympic Games and increase awareness, participation, and membership.
